UIBE GVC database

2022.10.25

UIBE GVC Indicators is a public database and aims at providing useful indicators for international trade studies and global value chain (GVC) analysis. It consists of two versions, database for scholars and database for trade analysts. The database for trade analysts is a simplified version of database for scholars. It provides principal GVC indicators for trade and policy analysis and is equipped with data filtering, extraction, visualization, and download functions. The indicators are constructed based on a wide range of inter-country input-output tables published by famous institutions and organizations, such as ADB, OECD and WIOD. Please see (Readme) for more detailed guide to the database.

1.     Database for Trade Analysts

This database includes four categories of indicators: Part A Trade, Part B Bilateral Trade Decomposition, Part C Production Decomposition, Part D Other Indicators. Each part of indicators is organized in a hierarchical structure. It can be expanded by clicking the icons. All indicators are constructed by using inter-country input-output tables from four sources: ADB 2022 edition, OECD 2021 edition, WIOD 2013 edition and WIOD 2016 edition. These tables have different features in terms of covered industries, countries, time series and the treatment of processing trade. Users can select from them according to their research questions.

2.     Database for Scholars

This database provides three categories of GVC indicators constructed based on more detailed decompositions: Part A Production Decomposition, Part B Bilateral Trade Decomposition, and Part C Production Length. These indicators are useful for academic researchers in GVC area. Some preliminaries in input-output analysis are needed to use this database.
